Yup, that’s right! You know what I am going to talk about. As I have already told you, I have quite a taste in movies, especially action, sci-fi and fantasy. This happens to be one of the best movies in all three genres. So, this one is right up my alley. Why this movie interests me in particular is because of my curiosity to know whether the movie is going to take its legendary legacy forward or crush under the load of expectations. Don’t worry, no spoilers here.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens has finally released 10 years after the last installment of the Star Wars series was premiered in Los Angeles on Dec 14, 2015. Do you know how much money the latest installment grossed on its opening day? 528.9 million dollars! That’s right. The Force Awakens is now enjoying the distinction of the biggest worldwide opening in the history of world cinema.
Star Wars is like a religion for many. The producers have kept the plot of the movie a secret until it was released. The internet has been abuzz with the movie memes hogging the better part of it. Even after the movie was released, there were constant requests to not reveal the story and for people to not spoil it for them. Well, I watched the movie recently, and out of respect for everyone who hasn’t yet, I am not going to reveal anything interesting. I will, however, share my two cents.
This movie by J.J. Abrams is a worthy descendant of the rich past of the franchise. It has been applauded across the board and rightly so. One of the main reasons the movie has done so well is that it resonates with the original trilogy by George Lucas. The movie has actually made the fans forget theScreen Shot 2015-12-23 at 6.20.47 PM botched prequels of the movie. It is humorous, great on action, and has a nostalgic feel to it.
The force is still making all the characters dance to its tune. It is an adventure with people meeting each other by chance. Like it has always been. It is set 30 years after the second Death Star was destroyed and is as emotional as it is funny. All the actors, whether it is Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill or Carey Fisher from the older generation or the new crop of actors, including Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley or John Boyega, have performed well. The new and old generation have stood together to deliver a movie that is remarkable and memorable.
Films like Star Wars do not happen every day. It is as much a part of American History as it is of every fan’s life. The Force Awakens certainly brought back fond memories and I was ecstatic to watch such a well-made piece of work. The movie has certainly not been crushed by its huge legacy. The old and the new have come together beautifully and I am definitely going to watch it in my Star War reruns.
