i have a P4 1.7GHz
and i have a acer AMD althon XP 2800+ 2.08GHz, hopefully blow that thing up... jk, i just needed it to run faster!!
and im basically retarded at modifiying computer, but i try to learn.

I'm pretty sure AMD locked their speeds .
This may be technical, but do you know the motherboard brand that you have? _________________

This is going to sound snotty and condescending, but if you're not sure of the motherboard I wouldn't mess with overclocking it.
That said, I don't think you should waste time trying to overclock a machine you didn't build yourself. Alot of pre-build machines come locked down so you really can't overclock.
And in my opinion, overclocking isn't worth the risk. You do something wrong and you'll smoke your PC. |

that and over cloaking drains the life of your processor...
over clocking = life < power
but when you can get a $33 celeron to run at 5GHz who cares... lol _________________

That's what I'm sayin'. And overclocking a freakin' expensive processor (Quad Core Extreme for example) will make sure you actually get less processor for the money (by a shortened life).
However, companies that pre-build computers usually don't lock down the BIOS, and that's key to overclocking the processor (HP doesn't, anyway). I got an HP with a 2.33GHz processor overclocked to 3.2GHz no problem. You'll have to boost cooling equipment though. _________________

so what i have to do with my Dell? i'm not going for extreme, 2.1 or 2.3 will be enough... and i dont really care about processor life, i gonna get new computer next summer or winter |

thats 1/3 its total clock speed... i would shoot for like 2.0GHz without worrying about cooling... cause if you overclock it to say 2.3GHz and it gets to hot after 3 minutes its gonna shut down you cpu and it wont start back up till it cools... do that to many times and your cpu will be fried...
if your bios are locked i don't know how to unlock them i never needed to so i don't know... if its unlocked just press like setup or what not when booting and see if you can do it from there... _________________

When was your computer made? The BIOS key for newer computers is the Delete Key. It's pretty technical. _________________
