or does it even increase performance?
anyways, i order mine today ... still have to wait til monday to confirm my credit card tho. but im excited.
T8300 2.4GHz
2GB ram (will be 3 GB after i have it)
8600m GT 256mb vram DDR2
160GB HDD
bluetooth
remote
9-cell battery (thanks to bald) |
How are you planning on upgrading the RAM to 3gigs?
Don't go 2gig stick/ 1gig stick to equal the 3 gigs, i'm sure its prolly a 32-bit OS so 3.1gigs is all it will read but its better to go 4gigs instead of mixing the sticks. Most laps and desktops support dual channel and eventhough XP/vista 32-bit and won't see the full 4gigs, it will still run them in Dual channel mode and increase its speed. |
why ... not? lots of laptops sold with 3GB of RAM and im sure they already been tested. well, just like a tri-core processor, its not evened out, but it still work.
i have 758MB(256+512) in my current laptop, and it never had a problem.
maybe i will upgrade to 4 gig later. |

go with even numbers... an extra 1gb isnt that expensive... the rule is go even...
just buy a 2gb stick and dont waste your money upgrading then having a 1Gb stick thats not used _________________

well then, i will leave it as 2GB for right now. i will consider upgrading if i feel the demand of extra RAM. |

I'm just saying, you can go 2gig/1gig stick to get the 3 gigs but why would you, it will only run in single channel, when you can spend the extra money (which is very little) to go 2gig/2gig and have it running in dual channel mode.
You end up with the same amount of RAM, but if you go with dual channel you will also get the benefit of lower latency time (faster).
I did it to my Toshiba, went from 2gigs, to 4gig (OCZ gaming RAM), from single to dual channel and i saw a huge difference, and it wasn't from the visible extra gig (running Vista 32-bit), it was from the lower latency timing.
And i do agree 2gigs is enough, that what i have in my tower, but this is a laptop we are talking about, a big chunk of it is probably going to be reserved for video RAM and such. |

Thats a sells tactic, it says 3gigs, most likely generic 2gig/1gig sticks but thats just to say and show (OMG ITS GOT 3GIGS THATS AMAZING!) but your not getting all of the benefit. I'm not talking about how many gigabytes of RAM you'll have after the upgrade its going to be the same no matter what (thanks to 32-bit OS), i'm talking about the benefit you will get from keeping the same brand, model, and size sticks. |
