and thing is its my study laptop, so not much is going on, and if i could hold on to it for another 3 or 4 years, i would happly upgrade it by then (and SSD too!!!!). |
Dual-channel means that you double your data throughput to and from your RAM.
Its like going from a 1 lane road (single) to a 2 lane road (dual), more data can flow using dual-channel. As long as its a matching pair of sticks, and your motherboard supports it, it can run in dual-channel mode. |

DDR2 ram is double data rate as it is... so if you have your ram running at 667 your actually getting 667 x 2 in a single stick of ram...
DDR3 would be 667 x 3 in a single stick but those speeds get even higher...
anyways when you stick in your ram and its in a dual channel mode with DDR2 your really getting... 667 x2 x2 which is all running at a speed of 667... really now a days its not the ram as a bottle neck but the way a cpu handles it all with the front side bus _________________

I know that, i'm just saying that if he plans on upgrading the ram why not go ahead and get the benefit of dual channel. and your absolutely right, bottle neck mainly takes place at the CPU, but if you have the ability then why not use it. Not much you can do about bottle necking at the CPU that comes from a CPU running 1600mhz on a mobo that can only run 1066. for a lap theres not much you can do. |

Then why debate about it???
But the dual-channel makes a little difference. Maybe Horrorcosmic overstated it just a smidge, but there is a noticeable difference.
The next push for speed ought to be getting rid of the Front Side Bus. _________________

Yea your prolly right, i might have taken it alittle far lol. but all i'm saying is its something to look into in terms of upgrading. |

what OS you using? coz vista gone hibernate right after you close the lid. and it will turn off(not shut down) itself after awhile. |

Vista, but you can change what it does in the power options _________________
