Just about a year ago, I purchased an Original 30 gig zune and my zune and I had a great friendship. Unfortunately, about a month later, the LCD did that crazy looks-like-it's-broken-on-the-inside-and-I-swear-I-didn't-do-it-but-I-probably-did thing and my zune and I quickly lost interest in each other. But don't worry, this isn't a bitch about broken LCD post.

A couple months later, I realized I could still use it as sort of a hefty Ipod Shuffle and I again enjoyed music on the go with my device.

This summer, finding myself with some extra funds, I decided I was going to restore my zune to it's original greatness. So I ordered a new LCD and I followed the guide from zunemods to replace it. The battery had died a day earlier, so I plugged it in and was greeted with a properly working LCD. I let it charge for a couple hours and tried to pull it off of the external charger. It shut off. As long as it was plugged in, it was fine, but it seemed that I either messed up the battery connection or somehow broke the battery.

Just to be sure, I ordered a new battery and tried to install it (actually, only a couple hours ago) Unfortunately, the same thing is happening, which leads me to believe the connection between the battery and the rest of the zune is somehow damaged, broken, or destroyed.

Has anyone ever heard of this happening or experienced it themselves? Is it possible to fix or have I ruined it completely. Any ideas would be helpful.

Thanks!

look at this pic, it shows 2 ribbon cables at the bottom of the zune that you have to plugged in. and make sure they are all the way in. and check if there is no broken cable ( i did damaged mine, but its still works)

I'm fairly sure it's not that ribbon connection because it's happened with both batteries and I took care to replace it exactly how it was when I took it apart.

Any other ideas?

Today I took everything back apart, and tried everything I could think of. I tried different combination of the new and old LCD screens, the new and old batteries, and ensuring that there were no twisted ribbons, cables, or what have you.

Unfortunately, the problem persists.

Should I sign it's death certificate?

Something I just thought of:

Do the internal screws on the motherboard, etc, ground the zune? I am missing one of them, and I'm wondering if perhaps that is my issue.

Hopefully it's something that simple...
