and the where the 2-year replacement insurance comes in. which cost like $69, i believe.

I've had a similar situation with mine and came to a rather brilliant idea, if you can pull it off without anyone noticing. Since you have the insurance, open your zune up VERY VERY CAREFULLY, and disconnect the battery from the motherboard. As long as the screen isn't noticeably damaged they'll check to see if it powers on, since it won't they'll exchange it.
I went through Best Buy when I bought mine and took it in to exchange it. The only test they ran was with someone from Geek Squad, who looked at pushed a button and said "Ok, it's broken." Even if they had tested it with a comp, the lack of a battery sort of negates the whole process.
